Ralph who?

I buy whatever looks good–not what costs the most.

Today, I was called materialistic and I was a bit taken back by that comment. I work hard for the clothes, shoes, etc that my children have. However, I will not break my pockets for these items. I have no problem living and remaining within my means. If that means buying clothes from Family Dollar, Wal-Mart, Target, or outlet stores, I have no problem with doing so. Granted, I have visited Macy’s and Dillard’s and I’ve purchased Ralph Lauren Polo shirts for my children, but if you open their closets, you will also see Faded Glory, OshKosh B’gosh, Carter’s, etc.

More?

I guess when you wear the clothes as well as WE do, I could see why people would think I spend a fortune.

gets on high “horse”… GIDDY UPPPP! :cowboy:

People will always talk crap even though they know nothing about it.
As long as you can afford whatever you buy don’t worry about what people have to say about it. I know I don’t wear name brand but I don’t care…provided it looks good on me and I like it, that’s all that matters.

I think that’s the problem–people care too much about what people think. Personally, I don’t care. I have never cared. I know what I can afford and what I can’t afford. I know what’s in my bank account and what’s not and I’m not trying to prove or disprove that amount by being reckless and splurging on expensive clothing. My children and I have clothes, shoes, etc. that we make look good. The designer is obsolete to our method of doing such.

I think people are just rude. Why label someone? This makes me angry. This person who called you materialistic is probably just jealous that you have more clothing, etc. then them. Good for you for sticking your grounds!

    Have a great day! :)

Marshall’s has designer brands for less. I sound like a commercial, but it is true. I hate when people label others though, I mean what kind of person does that?

I like the new site design. It looks great!

I understand where you are coming from, but it is your money so spend it how you want. It’s not there money so they have no right to speak on it. I do however, get annoyed often when I see people buying several pairs of Nike, Jordans, Polo, etc. shoes and clothes for a baby that can’t even walk. That really urks me. My sister is always wasting money buying name-brand shoes every week for her son whom can’t even walk! It’s crazy to me, but it’s her money right? It couldn’t be me. It’s alright to splurge from time to time, but do it wisely is my approach to it.

I don’t understand that either. I’ve received Jordans, Nikes, etc as a gift for my children when they were babies but I’ve never spent that much on shoes for a baby. Next week, they’ve outgrown them and I’ve wasted $30-$50. I’ve been guilty of doing this with my daughter and I’ve bought some expensive shoes for my son as well; however, they grew into the shoes rather than out of them. hehe*

you left a comment on my lj that i really appreciated =) thank you for that. ive been coming to your site ever since & I love it your soo real!

But i really feel you on this. i find it funny that people who have dead end jobs, aren’t in school, live at home have LV purses & like you said name brand clothes. I can get a purple polo style shirt at old navy for what $40 less that a purple ralph lauren polo shirt, i’ll keep that extra $40 towards my car note or rent.

my sister made a smart remark about my coach purse asking where i got the money for it, little do people know its a $10 knockoff from the flea market. lol

Thanks Jade! I’ve frequented your livejournal as well.

That’s exactly my point–it’s how you wear it that makes the difference. My favorite outfit consists of a wifebeater and a pair of jeans. Now, if I’m not mistaken, muscle shirts are sold about three in a pack for $6-$8 at the dollar store and wal-mart. Recently, I’ve seen stores in the mall that will sell these shirts for 2/$20. Who? Because I think that is simply ridiculous. It is a PLAIN white muscle shirt. Who in the hell will know the difference?

While I’m not a big purse fanatic, I don’t understand and I cannot fathom how someone without a car, their own place, and a job, NEVERTHELESS, can have collections of designer bags. It’s just sad!

People always judge everything. Especially when it doesn’t involve them at all, it’s kind of odd how they do that. I have a few friends that only choose to wear labels, it’s really silly, I look at them and just inside my head I think about all the money they would have saved if they just got general branded clothing. Hey, the way I see it is if you have the money, there is nothing wrong with it, but only if you can afford it. If people do it for the vain reason of only wanting to be good, or looked at as good, then it’s silly. Too much vanity, and pressure on silly things these day’s.

I totally agree–if you have the money to spend on things of that nature, please do so by all means. But, when you are trying to live beyond your means because you’d rather be a fashion guru when it’s OBVIOUS you can’t afford it, you need a reality check! (And hopefully, you won’t spend that check on designer clothing..)

As a single mom with only my wages to get by I stick to a strict budget and clothes for myself or my daughter are hardly ever big name brands. Even when I have extra money like around tax time I won’t by name brands unless there is a super clearance sale or heck I can find them at our local goodwill thrift store. I’ve taught my 11 year old daughter that its about how your clothes look not what brand they are. Though she does love DC sneakers and she saves up her own money to purchase them herself.

I am an avid customer of thrift and consignment shops. *Stop telling people the secret..* LOL. I am in love with vintage clothing and I’ve found soooo many vintage t-shirts that you would probably pay $20 for at the mall whereas I spent no more than $3.00.

People are so caught up in the fact that their at a thrift store and don’t realize the money that they could be saving. I’m not sure if there’s a Plato’s Closet where you are, but down here in Louisiana, I’m also an avid shopper there. I sell clothes and get store credit to shop.
