Home Improvement, Frugally!

I’ve been in my townhouse since January and the only rooms that are fully furnished and decorated as I like it is the living and dining area. With my kitchen, there’s not much that I can do because it’s so small so I just added a few kitchen rugs and dish towels. The only thing that I want to add is a valence and that won’t take too much effort.

Now, when mentioning the bedrooms, that’s another story. Iyanna’s room is semi-decorated. She has her bed up, a valence, and all of her toys in her room but I still need to get a shelf for the toys and move my sister’s mattress and queen headboard out so she can actually play in her own room. I was thinking about painting it a light pink but I saw a Princess and the Frog comforter set and then leaned more towards a lilac. I see nothing wrong with her Dora comforter but I promised her something for her Head Start graduation.

Imari’s room and my room are blank canvases, especially my room. The only decorative item in my room is my comforter. I haven’t even installed Imari’s toddler bed so I can get him to start sleeping in his bed alone. I was thinking about an Elmo or Cars theme. Imari loves both and there are a lot of items to choose from in regards to decor. I’m leaning more towards Elmo, though. Here’s what I found:

I have so much trouble finding things for a Princess and the Frog theme that aren’t too expensive that I’m just thinking about sticking with Dora. I’ve had to look at several different places and I have yet to find the border from a trusted site. I’ll keep looking though.

As for my room, I’m still trying to find SOMETHING to will occupy all the space that I have in my room. I was thinking about getting a bigger bed, but I really don’t need a King sized bed. Then, I thought about adding a love seat but I wasn’t able to find one that matched with the comforter that I have for a reasonable price. I’m also thinking about getting a new desk because the glass/metal desk that I have now is clearly on it’s last leg. My Touchsmart is extremely heavy and it’s very hard to find a desk that will accommodate such a heavy and wide computer. I’m a Big Lots! whore so I’m sure I’ll find something there.

I really like this desk, plus it matches with my bed but I’m afraid I won’t be able to see the monitor while I’m in bed as I also use my Touchsmart as my television and my cable connection is in a certain area. I don’t want to run cable all across the floor. Therefore, I’ll need something with a sturdy platform. If I don’t find anything like that, I’ll most likely just get a desk like the one above, catacone it in a corner, and use it for my laptop. But first, as always, I’m checking the thrift stores, garage sales, and craigslist simply because installation/assembly and I are not the best of friends. I have a $45 bookshelf that I destroyed because I thought I was “Brenda the Builder”. Now, I’m forced to find shelf hooks (those that look like boomerangs–well to me, anyways) and install them that way. Hell, if all else fails, I’ll just mount the damn thing to the wall since the keyboard and mouse are wireless anyway and it’s touchscreen. :rotfl:

I have a lot to do ahead of me. I have a feeling I won’t get to this until July. Hopefully, my lazy and procrastinating ass will at least have Imari’s bed assembled by mid-June with some border on the walls. -smh-
