Two more days. Monday will be the first day of my second semester as a graduate student. This semester I’ve scheduled three courses, but I’m not absolutely sure if I can handle want to take three classes. Of course I can handle it but graduate courses can get pretty demanding and I don’t want to feel overwhelmed towards the middle of the semester.

I guess the key to sucess would be to try my best to remain organized. (Isn’t that the key to almost everything?) And in addition to that, I want to have my own little workspace where I can actually work. Most of my work is done in my bed or in my living room. Can you imagine the amount of success I’ve had trying to complete assignments while lying down..in my bed.. on a pillow.. under my covers? Yea, not much considering the copious amounts of comfort that my bed provides.

I must say, it was delightful to come home and be able to sit at my desk and review the information my professors provided me with today. And it may just be a mind thing, but having all the space that I need to put my books, notes, and everything I need to reflect, made me feel more productive and effective. I have my own little space in my room that provides just enough inspiration and motivation to work. Hard.

I have major goals this semester and besides a pretty obvious one, which is to eliminate procrastination, I want to raise my GPA. I currently have a 3.5 and even though that’s pretty spectacular (:beep beep:), I know I can do better, especially if I don’t wait until the last minute like I usually do. I know it can be done if I strive to put in that extra effort that I know I can provide. After all, my family’s future depends on this.

calendar – Office Depot $6 | glass container for writing utensils – Dollar Tree $1 | Owl Tea kettle and dispenser – Big Lots $14
inspirational plaque – Burke’s Outlet $10 | desk – Walmart folding tablet $25

What are you all looking forward to next week?

Good luck this semester. I started a new quarter last monday even though I don’t even have to because all my courses for my Master’s Degree are completed. I just can’t stop when there is so much I want to do so I’m working on a specialization. Grad school can be difficult and time consuming so I understand how you feel. Crazy me is trying to do it all 8 months pregnant. And I do all my school work from my bed. I guess that’s why it takes so long.

Wow! I always love hearing about people furthering their education or just expanding their knowledge. Trust me.. I have REALLY tried to work from my bed, but I honestly can’t get anything done. Working from the bed is for professionals. LOL!

Good luck this semester and God bless you and your family!

Congrat! A 3.5 ain’t nothing to sneeze at, lady!

I love your study space. I think having a dedicated space is definitely key to focus and hard work.

Good luck, you can do it!

I am feeling your anxiety! I am also enrolled in three grad classes this semester– on top of motherhood and being a teacher! Once the babes are down to sleep for the night… it’s hitting the books for me. Good luck!

I absolutely LOVE your desk set up! I seriously need to do something like that. Maybe that will be my next project. *saves for inspiration* lol. Like you said, most of my work is done on my bed!! It’s pretty awkward/uncomfortable especially when pulling allnighters :/. Congrats on the 3.5! That’s awesome especially because (I am assuming) grad school is more intense than undergrad.

    Goodluck this semester!

I cannot begin to tell you the amount of crooks in my neck that I’ve gotten from “trying” to do work in my bed. Not good.

Graduate school is more intense than the work I’ve done as an undergraduate, but as long as you stay focused and put in extra effort, it’s not as hard as it seems.

Good luck to you as well Steph!

I LOVE your set up! I need to do the same for myself. I will most likely be going back to school in the Fall and I’m going to need a place for myself also. Not to mention, I’m currently trying to launch my own business so I’m definitely going to need a desk. I currently have a desk in my room but it’s pretty old and it takes up too much space. I’m in the process of moving so I’ll probably pick up another one after the move.

I’m pretty sure you’ll do exceptionally well this semester. You seem to be very well organized and prepared! Good luck with everything 🙂

Also, I too am getting reorganized. I have TWO desks! LOL! I need to get another calendar for my newest desk too… Headed to Office Depot in a few to get some copies for a meeting and now, I just may have to pick up a calendar as well!

Thank you! I’ve added you to my Reader.

And I’ve been thinking about adding another one for my printer and other things, but I’m content with it being on the floor. LOL!

I love the fact your desk can be folded, that’s good for space saving. That Owl Kettle and dispenser? Too cute! I’ve been seeing so many post on organizing especially the office room-> the desk. This makes me want to organize now! Good luck with this semester. Also I’ve always liked the bigger calendar for the desk. I like being able to see on the desk and write down than on the wall.

What kind of phone is that? I’m looking for a new phone to get soon.

I love how organized your desk is. Looks really neat! I want a nice desk set up like yours. =)

I know graduate school must be overwhelming. I mean I’m only working on my bachelor’s degree and I feel like our professors overload us with course work. Ugh. Congrats on your high GPA! That’s awesome! I’ll be praying that you raise it. Keep up the good work Carla! 😀

Girl, Only?! LOL! Bachelor degrees are a lot of work as well. Graduate degrees just focus on a particular area which makes it more challenging because of the depth. Good luck with your degree! (:

Having a dedicated work space is so important. Where we are right now I don’t have much space so I am looking forward to moving. That will be one of the first areas that I set up. Everything looks so pretty. Yes for all of those ink pens!
