After being laid off for about 3 months (and severance payments ending in December), I have re-entered the World of the Employed last week. Things are progressing a bit fast, but I’m enjoying the ride and I must say that I am doing a pretty good job of balancing it all. As I mentioned, this is my first job where I have a salary, rather than hourly pay, and this is something that I can really get used to. My life is spiraling in control and I absolutely love it.

My first week was eventful, but enjoyable. On Sunday, I had applied for the position without any thought that I’d be called back. Monday, I was called around 12 PM and was even asked if I would be available to interview that same day. Of course I disagreed, and after being told the hours, I was sure the job wouldn’t work for me, but I wanted to get the experience of how the interview process would go. On Tuesday, I said I prayer before leaving,

God, if this is for me, let me be for me. Allow them to see my potential and to be willing to work with my crazy schedule.”

Yes. That was seriously my prayer because my schedules are always a struggle. Without worry or doubt, I went to the interview, was told I was hired after I showed a few samples (even this blog). I asked about the hours, and my boss said two words that pretty much had me sold, “It’s flexible.”

And let me tell you, I am taking full advantage of my “flexible” schedule, which includes working from home, extended lunches to run errands, etc. I am enjoying the benefits, the equipment, the Cloud with all of the software I’ve ever dreamed of owning (The Adobe Creative Suite).. all at my fingertips.

my desk – could definitely use some plants and decor ^.^

I’m doing a lot. I’m attending graduate school, just secured full time employent, and I’ve secured an assistantship which also involves being employed as an instructor. And while the 2012 ME would have considered my plate full, the 2013 Me is still trying to make room on the plate for more. I was on Facebook this morning and Tara from The Young Mommy Life stated that her husband told her,

Sometimes you don’t choose your career; sometimes your career chooses you.”

Ultimately, I want to be a Database Administrator, but I won’t let the ultimate goal deter me from taking advantage of every opportunity possible.

You all are going to read about me someday. Mark my words!
