So, I’m a lover a books. Judge me.
My goal for the summer was to read. And read. And read. When I thought I wasn’t going to summer school and I’d have a lot of time on my hands, I visited thrift store after thrift store and stumbled upon so many books that I needed to add to my collection. I’ve found that I can never go into a thrift store without visiting the book section, especially when books are priced as low as $.10. Yes, you read that correctly.
While I know I won’t be able to complete my challenge with all that I have going on, I promised myself that I’d still find the time to read. Not only because reading is important and there’s so much knowledge on these bound pages, but simply because it’s what I enjoy doing. And I’m leaning towards making more time for things that I love to do without lettings things that I have to do prevent me from doing so.
While I love reading alone, typically at night, I’ve also discovered how stories have created a lot of friendships and connections for me. To be able to find someone who loves books as much as I do really makes me giddy. Like her. And this lady that introduced me to Book Gorilla. And her synopses and Read With Me series. And let’s not forgot, her virtual book club. Oh and this book club via Facebook.
A friend of mine came to visit and asked if I thought I had enough books. And honestly, I don’t.
I will never believe that I’ll have enough.

June 20, 2013 at 2:32 pmGood lord, that’s a massive amount of books. I just went digital because I have no room for more of anything. There’s a great place here called Book Soup, there great with independent writers as well as the popular ones.

It’s really gotten away from me lately. It feels like there isn’t enough time to sit with a book and that I should always be doing something else.

And I haven’t done it in so long but since I went digital I have tons of book but ironically I’m reading less…But I recently picked it back up! I’m reading Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner. I love her books but this one is a sequel to Good in Bed which was great but this one is not so much…
I will be reading Revenge Wears Prada soon..the sequel to Devil Wears Prada…:)

I’ve seen a lot of houses with a lot books, and I’ve got to say, you’re right up there with the best of them! I see some of my favorites in your collection (Blue Like Jazz, Race Matters, Kite Runner, The Red Tent), and I really like that your collection is so eclectic. Have you read Cutting For Bone? I didn’t see it in your collection, but I think it might be a book you’d enjoy.

I have older books stored from the early 1900’s & so many other books in my house that I had to start storing them in boxes in my cellar. Recently, I’ve started purchasing ebooks on my tablet. It’s convenient, but still nothing like curling up with a good book.

Impressive collection you’ve got there! As much as I love to read, I actually own very few books. I keep books that I like to refer back to (like to What to Expect When You’re Expecting — and I’m NOT expecting) and industry books. But novels? I own very few. First because I’m too cheap to buy them (though the thought of paying $.10 at the thrift store is kinda of appealing), and secondly because I love the library. I’m also one who doesn’t read books more than once (unless it’s been many, many years), and buying them doesn’t appeal to me. And let’s not forget that my house gets smaller every day. Where in the world would I put hundreds of books?
I’ve also migrated to the digital life. I remember being the type who preferred actual BOOKS, but then I read my first book on the iPad. Life hasn’t been the same since – ha!
They say a house without books has no soul. Your house has SOUL, girl!

June 27, 2013 at 7:06 amI’m so jealous of your collection. I’ve always said people who don’t read seriously miss out. Every new book is like traveling to a new place to me. These days it seems people would rather just wait until the movie comes out, sadly. We even have a few of the same reads! Kite Runner is one of the best books I have ever read, and Mitch Albom is my homeboy. I first read The 5 People You Meet In Heaven in middle school after my dad read it. Typical daddy’s girl move, but I loved the book! Please share more of your reads, maybe we could even start a blogger bookclub?!
