Last Friday, I accompanied my daughter on a trip with her Boys and Girls club to the New Orleans Zoo and IMAX theater. I was asked to help out with the children and I happily accepted. I was well aware of how hot it was going to be and even then, I don’t think I was as prepared as I should have.
I’m a person that has to snack all day because my body is used to eating.. all. day. Now, when I mention snack, I usually mean fruit, cheese, nuts and the like between my big meals. And since I did not prepare the night before, the results ended in lightheadedness, a growling stomach, and anxiety.
I did manage to pull myself together for my little group. They were a handful, but not in a bad more. More of a handful because of their eagerness and attentiveness. But I enjoyed every minute with them and I didn’t have to fuss at all.
Apparently, the birds are not here for our voyeurism.
This gorilla, well it’s just too damn hot for her to make any other face but this one.
Looking after four kids is a job, but I managed to be able to take a few photos in between opening drinks, giving boosts to see the animals, grasping hands, and looking all around me every second to make sure everyone was together. The picture below is one of my favorites aside from the children on the carousel.
But him, serving face. Can I get a YASSSSS!?
All in all, we survived and we made it. We were both so beat that we went to bed around 7:30 PM and didn’t wake up until around 9:00 AM the next morning. My daughter was glad I was able to tag along and that made my day more than she could ever imagine. We’re just over here making some memories. (:

July 2, 2013 at 9:31 amGreat pics of the animals. My favorite is definitely that beautiful gorilla! The gorillas at our zoo always seem to be hiding, so I rarely get to see them.
Yay for field trips with the kids (and you’re right, they’re EXHAUSTING)!

July 2, 2013 at 5:19 pmThat picture of the gorilla is so damn clear! Wonder what he’s thinking about lol. That’s awesome that you were able to chaperone. I always wished my mother wouldve chaperoned when I was younger but she was always working.. I definitely need to do this w/ my daughter in the upcoming school year. Thx for reminding me 🙂 ?

July 2, 2013 at 8:38 pmHow close were you to that Gorilla? Looks like it could’ve reached out and grabbed you!
I have yet to chaperone a field trip, I tend not to like other people’s children that much so the Mr. does the field trips! Glad you guys are over there making memories!

July 2, 2013 at 10:01 pmI’m such a big kid. I love the zoo. I make it a point to visit the zoo in any city I’m in. Also, I’m eating all the time, and lately, it’s usually fruit or something natural (I’m following a paleo diet now because it actually keeps me satiated.) Looks like it was a great time. -Jess L

July 3, 2013 at 7:04 pmI am an all day snacker too. My co-workers always crack on me that I have something to munch on either in my lab coat, desk, or bag and most times I Do lol. I haven’t chaperoned a trip yet, I didn’t get that much patience growing up but great shots. Don’t you love the deep sleep a long field trip day brings?

July 16, 2013 at 9:21 pmThese zoo animals look good albeit the heat. The zoo IMO can be a depressing place. As a kid it looked cool, but when I take the kids now, I feel so sorry for those animals. But these look cool lol though it was hot. yes, girl, you better prepare those snacks
