The Living Room.

Ok, maybe this isn’t a HGTV special but I couldn’t think of a better title for this post about the updates I’ve done around the house. Last week, it snowed a good bit for Louisiana which prevented me from going in to the office. Here in Louisiana, we don’t get snow frequently which means we’re not equipped with the necessities to handle that type of weather. So, the weather pretty much kept me inside with four children. To keep myself sane, I painted my living room.

The previous color wasn’t that bad — a cornflower-y beige. But it was just toooooo yellow for me.

So, with all the time that I had, I decided to go with a darker color.

I’m in love with the color, which is also the same color of my bathroom. I’m not sure if I want to take this color all the way into the dining area, but I’m thinking about it and then painting the kitchen in a maroon/deep red color. Decisions.. decisions.

I also plan to switch out the rug for a patterned one, the valence for drapes, and get new throw pillows. Unfortunately, we don’t have an IKEA in Louisiana and they don’t shop here so I’m going to have to get creative and really shop around. The goal is to have the inside completely done before Spring time so I can devote that to the outside for plants. That’s the fun part.

This whole updating process has been a good bit of work, especially installing the wood blinds. But I can say that feels nice when you start to see everything come together.

This weekend will be spent making paper-mache landforms for my daughter’s project and reading for class next week. Have a great weekend guys!

Girl, you definitely have an eye for home decor. I’m pretty much clueless when it comes to that LOL. But the revamped living room looks amazing, it even looks more spacious with that color.

BTW they have some pretty patterned rugs over on Overstock.com. I can’t vouch for the quality just yet though, but I’ve been eyeing some on there for a while now.

Your home looks so inviting and warm!! Target has some really nice throw pillows and blankets, as well as some consignment shops in the area may have some really nice ones.

Love the changes. I’m on the same page with you. I am ready to start getting the outside together because I love being outside in the Spring and Summer.

Try Joss & Main. They have some incredible home decor items at great prices.

I’ve already purchased two lawn chairs and pillows for the front porch and I would have gotten this grill from walmart if it could have fit in my little sonata. LOL! But yea, I’m ready to dig up some dirt and have a bbq!

This is my first time hearing about Joss & Main – I checked out the site and I’m in love. This is perfect. Thanks for the suggestion girlie!

That color is great! It makes your living room look so warm and comfy. I’m so jealous that you get to paint!!! We only got to do an accent wall and then only using pre-determined colors…blah! One of the many reasons I’m working my tail off to get a house. Your home (the little I can see) is beautiful and it’s obvious that you have an eye for decor. Can’t wait to see what else you do!!!

boooooo! to pre-determined accent walls. tuh!

When my landlord told me he wasn’t finished painting some of the rooms I offered to do it and he was more than happy that I did. Even took a little bit off the rent. He came in and saw the colors that I chose and redid the unit that’s attached to mine. LOL!

Painting really lifted your space. Those fireplaces only need a little color you stand out. Great job!

Girl, who you telling. I’ve been in my place for 4 months now and my walls are still bare. Just no time. That color looks so goood!

I can see some pops of mustard yellow or a bright orange in that rug you’re supposed to be getting!

I thought I commented on this post, but I must have missed it! I love the color scheme that you chose for your place! That’s one thing I miss about having a house. There’s only so much I can do with these apartment walls.

The darker color did justice! It made the room look warmer, cozier. The snow thing happened here in Georgia, as well (what a crazy week that was). My school closed for almost a whole week lol. No class but also a lot of food places were closed right here in downtown Atlanta. Hope all is well with you 🙂

I love the brown color. Not only is it in the neutral category, but it gives the feeling of warmth and coziness. We’ve been wanting to repaint our walls, and I am planning on still staying neutral. Also, you can probably shop around online for some bargains since you don’t have an IKEA. I have to do that sometimes because I don’t always have time to shop around. I love your fireplace by the way. That’s one thing our little home didn’t come with that I wish it did! -Jess L
