“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was teh epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair […]”

upclIt was the best of times. It was the worst of times. I can still remember my senior year when we were forced to read “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens. Surprisingly, it was a very good book. For some reason, I can still recall the chief literary device “Universal Appeal” and how it was drilled into our heads. It’s funny how I find myself quoting lines from a book that I’ve read 5 years ago when I never thought I’d need to outside of that English IV class.

2009 was actually a good year for me. I acheived a lot of what I wanted to do. Last Year brought me bittersweet memories. Regardless of all of the bad things that I have experienced and witnessed, I am satisfied with my success and my acheivements for 2009. This year I see even more satisfaction and even more happiness mainly because I’ve let a lot of people go. I’ve allowed my troubles and my despairs of 2009 to remain in 2009. I’ve stopped stressing over things that I can’t change and I’ve accepted those things for what they are. With that acceptance, I was able to plan ahead in which I did.

Of course this year, I’ll definitely make better decisions. Nevertheless, the only plans (because I don’t make resolutions, I plan) that I have for myself are to avoid making the same mistakes again and to adhere to my faith, knowledge, and wisdom that I have attained throughout my life experiences. I’ve seen the growth within myself. I like it and I know what I must continue to do to keep growing.

Beautifully written. Loved the entry. I agree, I am going to try to do the same thing.

I’ve stopped stressing over things that I can’t change and I’ve accepted those things for what they are.

I’m glad that you have such a positive outlook on things, sometimes I wish I were the same way. I have trouble letting go of the past but it’s only been a few days into the new year and I’m already making progress.

You have a great attitude toward life. 2009 was also a good year for me.
Hope 2010 is better, but I can already see that it will
    be tougher… =)

I knew I wasn’t the only one who had a good year last year. I think people were dweling too much on the negative than the positives of last year. I don’t have any resolutions either, but I’m sure I’ll change some things though. Glad you had a good year.

Hehe, I’ve never had to read that book, but of course, I’ve heard of that quote before.

That’s great about the whole thing about leaving the 2009 stuff in 2009. That’s what I did in 2007. Hehe. Yes, it is a good thing. Good luck with the rest of your year, and I hope it’ll go great! =)

I think my favorite book from high school was The Great Gatsby. I’ve always loved to read, so I might actually look into reading that one again. Definitely gotta let people go sometimes, and I’m glad you did. Some are really just there to hold you back, keep you down. Keep that positive outlook on life. I think a lot of us would be better off if we chose to do that!

I don’t make resolutions either, but goals I’d like to meet. I think it’s stupid to wait until the end of the year to change..LOL. With each year we all grow and change, hopefully most of us will make positive growth and changes for the better. Happy New Year BTW. :-))

I love this, couldn’t have been said better. I like your outlook on things, you definately have a positive identity and I don’t think there’s anything better. I really do applaud you!

I don’t make resolutions either but this year I want to make a few changes. I want to learn from my mistakes so that I can avoid making them again, accept the things that I can’t change like you have and I bet I’d be the happy girl that I should be. I guess I need just a little more work though.

We are all works in progress and no one can be perfect. I take the mistakes that I make as lessons WELL LEARNED.

I agree. Sometimes when we experience bad things, we fail to take the time out to recognize all of the good occurrences and we fail to allow ourselves to dwell within that moment.

I like that–“..with each year we all grow and change..” and I totally agree with that statement. Some of us grow into better human beings. Others change into worse states.

I don’t think we realize how much energy we waste stressing over things we can’t change. Kudos for you for also accepting the obvious!

I think we all at some point find it hard to let things go and excuse the wrongs that someone has committed against us. You’re definitely not in that boat yourself. It takes time and patience to allow yourself to just..“Let it Go.” It’s a constant struggle.

I’m glad you’re making progress with what you have planned to do while we’re still pretty fresh into the new year. :cute:

    Hey Monique!

I’m definitely trying to be more positive than I was last year. Last year was a pretty good year and I remained positive for the most part. However, there is always room for improvement.

    🙂

Hey you’re absolutely right you can’t stress over the things
that happened in the past. But I’m glad they turned out good
    in the end for you.

I love how you quoted Charles Dickens book. Very smart. :).

You’re too kind, thank you for linking me back. :). Yeah I
didn’t think they still made them. Little a lone, make ’em
so your foot can go through them. I thought they were only
for little kids. But I guess I thought wrong. Haha. In a few
minutes you’ll be able to see me being a goof ball. Heehee.

Aweh thankyou. Glad you thought it was funny.
Omg, I hope I don’t feel like dropping out in my last year haha. I’ve never had that feeling before, so hopefully I won’t feel it anytime soon. D: I’m sorry to hear about how depressing high-school was for you. 🙁 At least you’ve moved onto bigger and better things now. 😀 Hell yah.
Aweh that’s great that 2009 was a good year for you. I hope that 2010 is as good if not better! Sure, we all have those rough patches, but you’re very lucky that the majority of the year was good.
Best of luck with everything that you want to achieve in 2010. I like your goal to make better decisions, I should try that as a resolution haha.
