Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I usually just keep it simple while still on theme, but we simply cannot celebrate and participate in Fall festivities this year. My anxiety won’t stand for it. But if there was any way to still enjoy it, then turning my living into a Harvest & Halloween Festival would be it. And that’s exactly what I did.

My daughter mentioned that all of my decorations were extra.

We laughed.

I mentioned that there will come a day where she’ll look back and appreciate how extra I made things today. How she and her siblings will go on and on in a group message thread and make each other laugh for hours.

She sarcastically remarked that I don’t know that will happen.

And I smiled and responded, “Of course you will. Because I do.

She smiled.

Then she took a piece of candy from the pile.

They will. Our kids alternate between laughing at and laughing with us. Continue being extra.

Just like the thread my cousins have now? Of us making fun of our parents of what they use to do and say when we’re little? Of course they will, but her seeing it right now isn’t yet ready to happen. WE know because we’re developing our parents wisdom as they grow. We’re preparing our kids for their future and our later in life departure.
