I simply adore this time of year. I love the crisp, cold weather, the parades, the Christmas festivities, etc. I’m generally the type of person that would rather stay and home under my covers, but the Fall/Winter months really give me that boost to get out and be around people more often than not. Don’t ask me why, I’m just strange like that.

Every year, I look forward to attending the Festival of Lights with my two in tow. I remember the first year attending I had so much fun that I couldn’t wait to attend the next year. I think what we like most is the snow. Here in Louisiana, it snows every blue moon so this gives us something to look forward to.

On the way there, since we were sort of late, we caught a glimpse of the firework show from a distance, even though it didn’t seem that far. I always love to watch and listen to the fireworks. My son? Not so much. He covered his ears as we grew closer to where the festival was centered.

The streets were filled with people laughing, singing, and dancing. The live band was amazing, although the children were more intrigued with the juggling 8′ elves. I thought it was a cute, fun idea to portray the elves in a different light as being taller than how we imagine them to be from pictures and stories. The kids seemed surprised too.

And who doesn’t enjoy cold and wet balls of ice thrown at them when they aren’t looking? And why wouldn’t anyone enjoy slipping and sliding all over a wet, cold ground of ice? Tuh.

And what better way to warm up than visiting the East Baton Rouge Mobile library? It really makes me overjoyed that my kids love reading as much as I do.

Overall? A wonderful event. I’m always pleased when I attend the festival. To me, this is one of the best events to attend and enjoy with complete strangers where after a few holiday songs, feel like family. The holiday season has a way of doing that I guess.

How did you kick off your holiday weekend?

Beautiful photos! Your babies are adorable.

Christmas wasn’t really my thing for a while. I was kind of a scrooge. I think it had a lot to do with the bitterness I felt about the holiday after my mom passed. My family is very small so my Christmases were spent with just her & my sisters. The holidays just never seemed the same after that. I thought that when I had kids of my own, my spirits would be lifted a bit but at first they weren’t. Then when my kids were old enough to talk and ask questions about the Holiday that’s when things changed for me. It felt good to actually celebrate again, and share stories with them. I love the scenery of downtown Philadelphia during Christmas. It’s really pretty and they hold a lot of events.

I kicked off my holiday weekend with some much needed sleep. lol

That’s exactly how I was for Thanksgiving. My mom is still sick and isn’t able to be home with us so Thanksgiving was pretty sad for me at first. My kids were visiting their other families so I was pretty much alone. But then I decided that there were people I could be with and enjoy myself and it felt good being around “motherly” figures. I didn’t feel so down.

Glad you were able to get you some rest. I’m STILL in my pjs!

That festival sounds amazing. I don’t really get into the season until about a week or so into December because I don’t want to be tired of Christmas by the time it comes. But my house is usually a Christmas lampoon once we start decorating and baking.

The photos are so pretty. I’ve never been to a light show or Christmas event since I’ve come to this country. Savannah gets to go see Santa, Christmas pictures and that’s it. A tree and gifts of course. The older she gets I’ll be less of a scrooge. I thought that me and her father could be in the holidays together and make this BEST Christmas but…

Hopefully I come around when I put up the tree. She gets excited for the lights. Its for the kids anyway.
